Mike and Lynn
are pregnant.
Here we go again.
I'm happy for them. Thrilled, in fact. But the pressure on us
is bound to increase. We're the only ones left.
Of course we're not going to be pressured into having a baby
because everyone else is doing it. Ohhh, no. But losing all of
our friends to babies, now that gives us pause.
The thing about social circles is it's impossible to keep up.
Remember when all your
single friends started getting married or living with someone.
They no longer have time to hang with other single people. They're
either with their partner or the two of them are out with other
couples.
And just when you've become part of a couple and are part of
a new scene, your friends start having babies. It's like being
single all over again.
"Hey, you want to go out Saturday night?"
"We can't. No sitter."
So you try to be reasonable. (Desperate.)
"Let's do something where you can bring the kids."
Bad move. Dinner at McDonalds and bowling, the only two places
where the noise is already loud.
Suggesting babysitter options to your friends with kids is a
mistake.
"You don't have kids," they say. "You just don't
understand."
So your friends gravitate to other people with kids who do understand.
They bring their broods together, have a miserable time scolding,
shouting and cuckolding and you figure it serves them right.
Meanwhile, you look for new friends.
